About the Project

Ecocity Morocco is a project led by the state company Al Omrane to design and build new eco-cities and eco-districts across Morocco.

The development approach will align with international Ecocity Standards and UN Environment’s Integrated Neighborhood Guidelines.

CHALLENGES

Morocco faces multiple challenges, including rapid urbanization and climate change impacts. Related economic, social and environmental pressures stress Morocco’s development pathway towards a safe and secure future. Without a coordinated strategy, Morocco is unlikely to meet critical economic development goals, climate action targets, and social integration objectives.

Ecocity Solutions

Given this dynamic, a key solution is to design and build city-regions that enhance the well-being of citizens, society, and the environment through ecological urban planning and management.

The plans will be socioeconomically equitable—those without a car will be able to easily access all their needs. The convenient location of services, accessible by multiple modes, will save time and improve quality of life.

Chrafate

Chrafate is a new community strategically positioned at the center of Morocco’s emerging northern megalopolis, “Tangier – Tangier Med – Tetouan.” Chrafate is establishing itself as an innovation hub aimed at supporting the economic development of the Tingitane region. Chrafate’s new neighborhoods will offer residents and visitors healthy and pleasant living environments with unique residential, shopping, hotel, and entertainment experiences.

Chrafate est une nouvelle communauté stratégiquement positionnée au centre de la mégalopole émergente du nord du Maroc, «Tanger – Tanger Med – Tétouan». Chrafate s’impose comme un pôle d’innovation visant à soutenir le développement économique de la région de Tingitane. Les nouveaux quartiers de Chrafate offriront aux résidents et aux visiteurs des environnements de vie sains et agréables avec des expériences résidentielles, commerciales, hôtelières et de divertissement uniques.

Ibn Battouta

This urban center is providing a much-needed new community for workers, students, and teachers. Its development will alleviate the growing pressure on Tangier while improving citizens’ quality of life and creating new economic and employment opportunities. Ibn Battouta is additionally positioning itself as an attractive and convenient gateway to the primary tourist centers of Tangier.

Ce centre urbain offre une nouvelle communauté très attendue pour les travailleurs, les étudiants et les enseignants. Son développement permettra d’alléger la pression croissante sur Tanger tout en améliorant la qualité de vie des citoyens et en créant de nouvelles opportunités économiques et d’emploi. Ibn Battouta se positionne en outre comme une passerelle attrayante et pratique vers les principaux centres touristiques de Tanger.

Tamesna

At the gates of the Capital and future City of Light of Morocco is Tamesna, a city of culture and well-being. Looking to the future, Tamesna will offer its citizens and visitors a healthy, pleasant, and entertaining living environment with the utmost respect for the natural environment. Tamesna is positioning itself as a pivotal linkage between Rabat and its hinterland. This community intends to set an example in terms of sustainable, inclusive, and integrated urban development.

Tournée vers l’avenir, Tamesna offrira à ses citoyens et visiteurs un cadre de vie sain, agréable et divertissant dans le plus grand respect de l’environnement naturel. Badr

Badr is an urban center within the Casablanca-Stat region. Badr aims to showcase urban innovation through its redevelopment plans, which support the economic development of the Casablanca region. Badr will offer pleasant living environments with unique residential and entertainment experiences. Importantly, Badr commits to promoting human and social development at the scale of the area.

Badr vise à mettre en valeur l’innovation urbaine grâce à ses plans de réaménagement, qui soutiennent le développement économique de la région de Casablanca. Badr offrira des environnements de vie agréables avec des expériences résidentielles et de divertissement uniques. Plus important encore, Badr s’engage à promouvoir le développement humain et social à l’échelle de la zone.

Lakhyayta

Lakhyayta, the land of innovation and knowledge, is located at the heart of Morocco’s economic center. Lakhyayta will pioneer exemplary urban development and demonstrate a circular economy. Lakhyayta pledges to carry this challenge forward to showcase a new model of prosperity throughout the value chain. Activities will span from upstream training and research to downstream distribution and resale, showcasing Morocco’s new green economy. Lakhyayta will shine with the spirit of regional, national, and even international influence.

Lakhyayta, la terre de l’innovation et de savoir, est située au cœur du centre économique du Maroc. Lakhyayta sera pionnière en matière de développement urbain exemplaire et fera la démonstration d’une économie circulaire. Lakhyayta s’engage à relever ce défi pour présenter un nouveau modèle de prospérité tout au long de la chaîne de valeur. Les activités s’étendent de la formation et de la recherche en amont à la distribution et à la revente en aval, mettant en valeur la nouvelle économie verte du Maroc. Tamensourt

Tamansourt is an emerging city of knowledge and culture. Its expression firmly focuses on human development and youth. Tamansourt strives to offer a pleasant, fulfilling, and promising living environment to all residents. Its activities will promote socio-economic and human development with high regional and national impact. This new city is dedicating its expression to the spirit of inclusiveness and integrated development.

Tamansourt est une ville émergente de la connaissance et de la culture. Son expression est résolument tournée vers le développement humain et la jeunesse. Tamansourt s’efforce d’offrir un cadre de vie agréable, épanouissant et prometteur à tous ses habitants. Ses activités favorisent un développement socio-économique et humain à fort impact régional et national. Cette nouvelle ville consacre son expression à l’esprit d’inclusion et de développement intégré.

Dakhla-Nord

Just North of the city of Dakhla, Dakhla-Nord will illustrate urban innovation and progress. This urban center is positioning itself to boost the economic development of the Dakhla-Oued Addahab region. Its built environment will offer pleasant living experiences with unique residential shopping, hotels, and entertainment options. Dakhla-Nord’s development strategy will protect and respect the region’s important ecological and natural amenities.

Juste au nord de la ville de Dakhla, Dakhla-Nord illustrera l’innovation et le progrès urbains. Ce pôle urbain se positionne pour stimuler le développement économique de la région de Dakhla-Oued Eddahab. Son environnement bâti offrira des expériences de vie agréables avec des options uniques de shopping résidentiel, d’hôtels et de divertissement. La stratégie de développement de Dakhla-Nord protégera et respectera les importantes caractéristiques écologiques et naturelles de la région.

ABOUT AL OMRANE

The Al Omrane group is a strategic public company born from the will of the State to create an operator-developer for the implementation of the State’s policy on housing and urban development.

It is a major contributor to the national effort to produce housing and mainly those intended for the most deprived populations, and particularly in areas and segments in deficit. Through its social positioning, it thus contributes to strengthening the supply of housing for low-income and middle-class social strata and to improving their living environment.

It is also a benchmark developer at the national level, supporting the development policy of new towns and large integrated urban projects.

Ecocity Builders will work with Al Omrane, UN Environment and Moroccan stakeholders to develop and implement regional sustainable development strategies. The critical driver is developing a practical and comprehensive approach with global guideline integration.

Ecocity Morocco will set the country on a comprehensive sustainable development pathway. One where its citizens will thrive and prosper in resilient and healthy city-regions into the long-term future.
